I King 20:22-29
God In The Valley
I King 20:22-29
The “hills and valleys” passage in 1 Kings 20 describes two battles between the Arameans
and the Israelite. Ben-Hadad king of Aram and his great army of over 100,00 men planned
and attacked the 7,000 man Israelite army. The bible says each Israelite soldier struck down
his opponent and they won. Afterwards while the Israelite were settled the in the valley, Ben-
Hadad was planning another attack. The Arameans mistakenly thought that the Israelite
victory was won because they fought on the mountainside. They reasoned that they had
won because Israel & God was a God of the hills. So they believed that Israel could be
defeated in the valley.
The Bible records God saying & that although some people think he is “a god of the hills and
not a god of the valleys” he will show them his power so that “you will know that I am the
LORD.” 1 Kings 20:28 So, the Israeli army responded as God directed and their battle in
the valley was won.
Our circumstances will change throughout our lives. We will all have our ups and downs, our
hills and valleys, but we don’t go through them alone. We can experience God’s presence by
reaching out for Him. Even in our valleys when our enemy (the devil) is plotting his attacks,
God is ready to deliver us out of the hands of the enemy. God has promised to be with us.
Matthew 28:20
In hills times, we can celebrate God’s goodness.
“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song
before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12.
In the valley times, we can choose to see our difficulties as opportunities to grow
stronger in our faith and trust in God.
Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some
strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ
sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
1 Peter 4:12-13,
Whether on life’s hills or in life & valleys, God is there for us anywhere and anytime. We can
rest with peace and even joy in all circumstances.
God Bless!
